Armona Island was not somewhere we had been before and although we had done some research it was difficult to be sure exactly what the feel would be.
The biggest factor was no cars or bikes on Armona. It was also end of season too. It is a very quiet beautiful, natural place where simple pleasures flourish.
There are no high rise, no pressure selling - just a few modest bars and restaurants/cafes and lots of boats - mainly for fishing rather than sailing.
The sea was not Med warm because it is the Atlantic, but it is great swimming - something the family did at least daily. Big strong tides were a feature as was very clear water and wonderful soft sandy beaches - particularly on the Atlantic side of the Island. The sea was teaming with sea life which is why fresh fish and shell fish are such a feature of the gastronomic experience of the area.
Our family - 9 of us - myself, 4 grown up offspring (2 with partners) plus my 2 little grand daughters rented a lovely villa. It was a wonderful family time and a wonderful collective memory I am sure.
I attach a few photos below :-
Certainly a great post! Armona Island is simply amazing for an ideal family vacationing. I have added it to my bucket-list for upcoming vacationing. Will apply for Portugal visa soon & head out to Armona with my spouse & kids.
